Linux.. the alternative choice
I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of months now.. overall enjoying it (despite the fact that the 8.10 upgrade corrupted most of it.. but thats another issue!)
Recently I've been looking at more lightweight options for a future purchase item (can you say netbook?)... anyways I ran across LFS (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org), Linux From Scratch. THese guys have a guide on how to build your own linux distribution from scratch!
And it's proving to be a LOT more difficult than it sounds... hope to update more soon |

Go check out cuil.com
Apparently theres a new search engine in town. Cuil.com pronounced "cool" is set to compete against Google with a slightly different approach.
It's definitely interesting. They base their searches on content, not just popularity and you can search without getting the nasty privacy-invasive cookie attached to you (like Google with its ways to achieve the best ads).
For one thing.. searching KwaziCo put my site in the first position haha and I definetely love that =)

What's this? I just read over at vnunet that Apple is entering the £500 price range for their laptops?
Most of you probably know that Apple product have always been expensive (even if they weren't of equal quality...), so this might be interesting.
Then again, £500 is 1,015.93 CAD (or 995.857 USD as of 27 Jul 08 using xe.com) so not the cheapest laptop, but definetely a start.

Okay, I just spent the past 2 days trying to get my website back online and have run into nothing but problems...
First it was design issues (browser-related)... but even worse...
...my HOST! Just a few hours ago, I was on GoDaddy. Simple cheap hosting service. But seems their MySQL and Customer Service response time is on the weak side. Had all kinds of issues trying to just connect to their MySQL server (recieved "Lost Connection to MySQL server during query"), drove me nuts! Kept trying to reach their tech support, no luck.. so I looked into alternatives.
Now, if you've ever tried searching for a webhost.. you'll know what I mean.. the HASSLE! The lack of decent realistic reviews! Either people completely complaining or unrealistically praising a particular host. But finally after a couple of hours, I reached a goal. Fused Network. The damned guys are located in Toronto (my location fyi :p)! Response time with their sales team was within minutes of each email I sent.. I was up and running in no time! And man do they have features on their servers! maybe I'll post a formal review later...
I should add that changing my nameservers on GoDaddy was super quick too (so props to them for that one). But finally, this is my 4th host, and I'm satisfied!

So, I finally took some time out of my hectic schedule to place this website back on track...
I'll probably be using it as a personal blog as all my projects have been put on hold. However, maybe I'll place a couple of past projects up anyways...
